Women's Cross Country Fourth at America East Championships

STONY BROOK. N.Y.-- The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams both finished fourth at the America East Championships in Stony Brook, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) was the first Black Bear male to cross the finish line, while Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) paced the women's squad. For the second straight year, New Hampshire took the men's title with 35 points. The Wildcats were followed by Stony Brook (37), Boston University (85), Maine (114), UMBC (125), Binghamton (140), Albany (180), Vermont (200) and Hartford (271). Bartlett led all Maine finishers as he completed the course in 26:39, good enough for a 12th place finish. He was followed by Christopher Harmon (Scarborough, Maine) who finished in 26:47.4 in 17th place. Charles Therriault (Clinton, Mass.) was 23rd in 27:06 followed by Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) who placed 30th in 27:23.6. David Englehutt (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) rounded out the scoring for Maine as he crossed the finish line in 27:40.5, good enough for a 32nd place finish. Stony Brook's Alex Felce won the men's race in 25:32. Stony Brook snapped Boston University's three-year run as the women's champion. The Seawolves won the race with a total of 38 points. Boston University placed second with 66 points followed by New Hampshire (73), Maine (131), Binghamton (141), Albany (176), UMBC (182), Vermont (184) and Hartford (229). Belliveau finished sixth overall in a time of 18:04.1. She was followed by Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) who was 23rd in a time of 19:06.4. Laura Bruston (Mystic, Conn.) was 26th in 19:20.5. Chelsea Leeman (Brunswick, Maine) placed 36th in 19:51.2. Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Black Bears as she placed 40th in 20:07.6.
Boston University's Andres Walkonen was the women's race in a time of 17:27.2. |
